Why Mediation?

Divorce or separation is never easy, and is usually a decision that has taken you quite some time to come to terms with.  It is often an emotionally charged time during which it can be very difficult for you to make those decisions necessary in order for you to move forward.

How Does Mediation Work?

Mediation is a voluntary process which enables you and your spouse to make each and every decision regarding the future of your family rather than leaving those important decisions to a third party, ie: the judge.  SInce it is completely voluntary, you or your spouse may withdraw at any time for any reason.  Since the mediation process allows you to determine your own outcome, you  and your spouse will ultimately reach  an agreement which will be fair and acceptable to both of you.  All discussions are conducted by an experienced, professionally trained mediator in the privacy and comfort of the mediator's office, without ever setting foot in a courthouse.

The mediator is a neutral party who, quite simply, assists you and your spouse through your negotiations. The mediator encourages and helps you to clarify any unresolved issues, to generate options and to find solutions that are mutually acceptable to both of you.  The mediator does not represent or make decisions for either of you.

Mediation works best when the parties are trying to keep or to work towards a future non-adversarial relationship between themselves for the sake of their children.  All mediations are conducted by an experienced matrimonial attorney who has been formally trained in Divorce Mediation.
